AIM Cartography

Introduction

Cartography is the study and practice of making maps. Combining science, aesthetics, and technique, cartography builds on the premise that reality can be modeled in ways that communicate spatial information effectively.
Note: Temporary changes of long duration (three months or longer) and Information of short duration which contains extensive text or graphics shall be published as AIP Supplements.

The introduction of Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) into Annex 15 “Aeronautical Information Services” (AIS), doc 8697 aeronautical chart manual, and annex 4 aeronautical charts related to aeronautical charts led to significant challenges for States in achieving compliance. These challenges are wide-reaching in scope and relate to technical, institutional, and implementation aspects. In order to facilitate their implementation, AIM Sri Lanka formed AIM Cartography/GIS unit to address these issues.
