Lesson 4: Our stakeholders

Airlines

Airlines are also customers of our company. They obtain services at the airport and air navigation services for a fee. Even those airlines that do not use our airports but fly through our FIR still pay us for the air navigation services they receive.

When we provide our services to the landed planes efficiently so that they could turn around without delay and depart on schedule it will be very beneficial to the airline. If the boarding bridge service and the gates are managed well so that disembarking passengers can quickly get off the plane so that the plane’s interior could be cleaned and the departing passengers could board quickly the airline will not experience any delay. Meanwhile other services like baggage handling, fueling, catering etc. which are not performed by our company still rely on us for various facilities to provide those services. Ultimately it is our company that facilitates the timely turnaround for the airlines.

We learnt in lesson 2 that the passenger is our customer and the airline’s customer as well. We also learnt that for the airline to serve the passengers well it requires our facilities. When we provide good facilities at the check-in counters the airline can give a good service to the passengers who are checking-in. When we provide good facilities at the gates the airline staff can handle the boarding operation efficiently.

While the plane is in flight, the manner in which air traffic control services are provided will greatly help the airline to operate the flight safely and on schedule. If the plane can take off on schedule without undue delay on ground it will help to catch up on other delays that may be encountered on the way. During the flight, if the air traffic control provides the necessary information to the pilot in an efficient manner so that he can fly at a desired speed avoiding bad weather and thereby save on time and fuel, the airline will benefit. When coming to land, if the plane is permitted to land soon without having to wait for long, the airline will benefit. Operating a flight is very costly and a delay of a few minutes or a sudden change in the altitude will cost the airline thousands of dollars. When the air navigation services are provided efficiently the airline can avoid these types of losses and operate profitably.

So, just as the airline would stand to benefit when our company performs its functions well, if our performance is not up to the required standard, the airline’s operations will be seriously affected.

The airlines are a very critical group of stakeholders of our company.
