Lesson 4: Our stakeholders

[Page 4.10]

Conclusion

So we are now aware of all our stakeholders which brings us to the end of our course.

To recap, we underwent 4 lessons in this online course.

In Lesson 1, we learnt about the aviation industry in general and gained an idea of our company’s role in it locally and internationally.

In Lesson 2, we learnt about the functions performed by our company. We looked at our company not as employees but from the outside, as seen by someone observing it from outside. Then we saw that our company will be seen as performing the following 4 functions:

  • Airport service function
  • Air Navigation Service function
  • Airport and facility maintenance function
  • Airport and facility development function

We also learnt that to the outsider what matters is how well we perform these functions.

In Lesson 3, we looked inside the company as we see it as employees. Then we looked at who owns our company, how our board of directors are appointed and how our company is structured. There you had the opportunity of having a brief understanding of the divisions and units other than the one that you are attached to. We also realized that although we are internally structured into divisions and units, we all are engaged in performing the 4 services mentioned above.

In this final lesson, Lesson 4, we learnt about our stakeholders, the parties who are affected by our actions. We saw that not all of them have even direct dealings with our company. Yet they are stakeholders. It is very important to identify the stakeholders of a business. No business can succeed without being mindful of all its stakeholders. As employees it is very important that we appreciate this fact because everything we do at work ultimately has some effect on a stakeholder. Knowing who our stakeholders are would enable you to serve better in your job.

So having concluded all 4 lessons, we could now attempt to answer the question that was posed during the initial part of Lesson 1.

Are you an aviator?

Yes, you are.

Aviators are not only pilots. As long as you are an employee of our company attached to one of the divisions, one of the units or to the directorate, you are engaged in performing one or more of those 4 functions of the company.

And as long as you are engaged in performing one of those functions which are ultimately vital for the primary purpose of the aviation industry, to keep planes safely flying, YOU ARE AN AVIATOR.

You can take pride in the fact that you are an aviator. While working in our company, you may be a management assistant, a secretary, a mechanic, a supervisor, an air traffic controller or an engineer but …. at the end of the day YOU ARE AN AVIATOR.

You can optionally take the final assessment that covers all 4 lessons to self-evaluate yourself (click here) or end the course.

All the best, and do enjoy your job !!!
