Sinhala and Hindu New Year Celebrations at BIA – 2016

April 13, 2016

When the sun moves from the House of Pisces to the House of Aries in the celestial sphere; Sri Lankans begin celebrating their New Year. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year dawned on 13th April, 2016 at 7:48 pm. The New Year traditions of lighting the hearth at the auspicious time and partaking of the first meal of Kiribath and traditional sweetmeats were observed by BIA staff together with the passengers by getting an experience of the real tradition and customs behind the celebration of the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

This is a time for goodwill among family and friends and observing the rituals at the auspicious time is believed to ensure that hearth and home will remain filled with peace, happiness and prosperity all across the year that has just dawned.

Eng. Saman Ediriweera, Chairman of AASL, and the Board of Directors wished the staff and all airport users a bright and prosperous New Year.
