Emirates A 380 Lands at BIA

An Emirates A380 aircraft, which is one of the largest aircrafts in the world, received a warm welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake on 14th August 2017. This one-off flights showed the confidence of the newly resurfaced Runway at BIA enabling for landing such largest aircrafts in the world. This is a significant milestone for the aviation industry in Sri Lanka and the BIA. Interestingly it was piloted by a Sri Lankan.

The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Hon. Nimal Siripala De Silva and the Deputy Minister Hon. Ashoka Abeysinghe were at the airport along with the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the Executive Director of the AASL to welcome and greet the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Sri Lanka Abdul Hameed Abdul Fattah Kazhim Al-Mulla. Emirates’s Senior Vice President Commercial (West Asia & Indian Ocean) Ahmed Khoory also graced event.
