July 21, 2014
Opening of the Aviation Refueling Terminal and the Fuel hydrant Facilities at Mattala-Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) on the 22nd June 2014 by H.E. the President Mahinda Rajapakasa amidst a distinguish gathering would ensure improved capacity of Jet A-1 aviation Fuel Storage up to three million litres and aircraft re-fuelling efficiency at MRIA to be on par with any modern airport in the world.
This State-of-the art facility at MRIA has been designed with an automated Fuel Hydrant System for refueling all types of aircraft which consists of a leak detection system, computerized stock-control device, digital metering, fire-fighting system, etc; which is also self-supported under any extreme conditions.
This milestone achieved at MRIA would not only improve the safety standards but also further reduce the Aircraft Turn-around Time at MRIA significantly thus ensuring a more expeditious and efficient operation during aircraft’s stop-over at MRIA, which would be a significant contribution towards the progress of this 2nd Gateway to Sri Lanka.
