CATC SRI LANKA IN THE LIMELIGHT AT ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS 2NDCDI/STD MEETING

Ms. Kumudini Wanniarachchi, Course Development Officer of CATC Sri Lanka was the speaker in the Panel 2 of the 2nd Course Developers and Instructors Standardization (CDI/STD) Meeting of the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme, held at Hyderabad, Indiafrom 2 to 4 July 2014. The event was hosted by the G M R Aviation Academy, Hyderabad, India.

The Panel 2 of the meeting was devoted to the “Design and Development of Competency Based Training” and the theme of the Panel was “How to overcome challenges in the process of design and development of competency based training?” The Panel was moderated by Mr. Yi, Yong Ki (James), Deputy Director of the Incheon International Airport Corporation, Republic of Korea.

In order to meet the stringent requirements of the extremely safety intensive Aviation Industry, the ICAO encourages and promotes Competency Based Training in all trades of Civil Aviation. The methodology for the development of competency based training is stipulated in the ICAO document “Training Development Guide – Competency Based Training” (DOC.9941). This proven methodology has 3 distinct stages and “design and Development” is one of them.

The panel stirred wide interest among the participants and attracted many suggestions for overcoming the challenges faced by course development teams during the design and development stage.
