BIA Welcomes Jetstar Airways’ Inaugural Flight from Melbourne

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) welcomed Jetstar Airways’ inaugural flight from Melbourne, Australia. Jetstar Airways operates three weekly flights between Melbourne and Colombo, strengthening air connectivity between Australia and Sri Lanka and providing passengers with greater travel options between the two destinations.
The inaugural flight was welcomed with a ceremonial water cannon salute, organised by Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL), marking the commencement of Jetstar’s operations to Sri Lanka.
The welcome ceremony continued with a vibrant traditional Kandyan dance performance, organised by Tourism Sri Lanka, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and extending a warm welcome to the arriving passengers. The inaugural event also featured a special cake cutting ceremony, marking the official launch of Jetstar Airways’ operations to Sri Lanka.
Adding to the warm welcome, arriving passengers were greeted with traditional Sri Lankan hospitality and presented with Ceylon Tea, sponsored by the Sri Lanka Tea Board.
The commencement of Jetstar’s Melbourne - Colombo service further enhances Sri Lanka’s international air connectivity and supports the growth of tourism and travel between Australia and Sri Lanka.
