BIA Welcomes Vietjet's Inaugural Flight from Vietnam

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) warmly welcomed Vietjet's inaugural flight from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam marking the commencement of a new air service connecting Vietnam and Sri Lanka. The new service operates three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, strengthening air connectivity and creating new opportunities for travel and tourism between the two countries.
The inaugural flight was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute, organized by Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL), symbolizing a warm welcome to Vietjet and its passengers. A vibrant traditional Kandyan dance performance organized by Sri Lanka Tourism further enriched the celebrations by showcasing the island's rich cultural heritage and extending a warm Sri Lankan welcome to arriving passengers.
The inauguration was further marked by a special cake-cutting ceremony celebrating the launch of the new air connection between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
The inaugural event was attended by Her Excellency Trinh Thi Tam, Ambassador of Vietnam to Sri Lanka and the Maldives; Mr. Poshitha Perera, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Vietnam; Hon. Anura Karunathilake, Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation and Minister of Energy; Hon. Janith Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation; and Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, Deputy Minister of Tourism, together with officials from the Embassy of Vietnam in Sri Lanka, Andrew The Travel Company, the General Sales Agent (GSA) of Vietjet in Sri Lanka, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), and AASL.
Passengers arriving on the inaugural flight were welcomed with warm Sri Lankan hospitality and presented with Ceylon Tea packs sponsored by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, offering visitors a memorable taste of Sri Lanka as they began their journey on the island.
