State Minister of Aviation Made an Inspection Visit to BIA Terminal 2 Project

State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development Hon. D.V Chanaka visited the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on 25^th August 2020 and had discussions with Major General G. A. Chandrasiri, Chairman of Airport Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL) and other senior officials of AASL on the new Terminal 2 construction project which will have the capacity to handle 9 million passenger movements at BIA by increasing the total handling capacity to 15 million per annum.

AASL expects to commence construction of this new terminal in September 2020 and it is expected it to be completed within 3 years. Under the project, a new multi-level terminal building, two new piers and a link course will be built.

Further, during the inspection visit the State Minister observed the airport facilities and key operational areas to be improved as immediate solutions to facilitate passenger comfort at BIA. Major General G. A. Chandrasiri, Chairman of AASL, Mr. Rajeewasiri Sooriyaarachchi, Vice Chairman- AASL, Mr.Aruna Warushahennadige, Director- AASL, Mr. Shehan Sumanasekara, Director- AASL, Mrs.   Deirdre De Livera, Director- AASL and the senior officers of AASL accompanied the field visit.
