BIA Vigilant on Coronavirus

Bandaranaike International Airport has taken all measures to prevent the coronavirus infected patients from entering the country with a high tech screening mechanism at the Airport (BIA).

Accordingly, arriving passengers, on suspicion, will be screened at the BIA. Further, onboard announcements are also, made in all the inbound flights to Sri Lanka requesting the passengers with suspicious symptoms of coronavirus infection to report to BIA Health Desk before the immigration process.

If any individual with suspicion arriving in Sri Lanka is identified with symptoms indicative of coronavirus, such as high fever, cough and cold, they will be screened at the airport premises. The diagnosed patients will be isolated and treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH).

Minister of Industrial Export and Investment Promotion and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga made a visit to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on 22nd of January to look into the preventive measures which are required to be made available at BIA.

Accordingly, Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited is implementing a series of precautionary measures to protect staff and passengers amid heightened concern over the outbreak of a new virus originating from the China. Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) such as masks, gloves and hand sanitizers will be provided for all frontline staff at BIA for their personal safety. Further, an awareness campaign is being already launched to educate the BIA staff on the virus, its mode of spread and its prevention.

Major General (Rtd.) G. A. Chandrasiri, the Chairman of Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited stated that BIA has taken all precautions to prevent the virus and BIA officials have been educated and directed by the Ministry of Health to take necessary actions to detect and isolate the viral infected cases on arrival.
