Progress Review of Hambantota Airport Project

Construction work on the Hambantota International Airport will be expedited. Work on stage one has been stepped up.

The airport is being built at a cost of 209 Million US dollars. With the building of the new airport, it would be possible to further streamline air flights.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka in March 2010, certified the Bandaranike International Airport in accordance with the specifications published by the international Civil Aviation Organization, which is a mandatory requirement for all aerodromes used for international operations.

This decision was taken at the progress meeting of the ministry of Ports and Aviation held in Temple Trees under the guidance of HE the President Mahinda Rajapakse on 25th May 2010.
