The
Fire Services of
Airport and Aviation
Services (Sri Lanka)
Limited was established
under Section 21A(d)
of the Airport Navigational
(Special provisions)
Act no: 2 of 1982
which states that
the Company is to ‘Provide
firefighting and
rescue services at
Aerodromes’.
In keeping with this
requirement and in
accordance with the
standards and recommendations
of ICAO Annexure
14, Chapter 9, the
BIA Fire & Rescue
Services was established.
As per the above
act AASL is required
to provide fire and
rescue services at
any other Airports,
managed by AASL.
In keeping with this
requirement Fire & Rescue
Services are provided
by AASL at Ratmalana
Airport.
The
principal objective
of the Airport Fire & Rescue
Services is to save
lives in the event
of an unfortunate
aircraft accident
or any other emergency.
The main activities
of the Airport Fire
Services are :
Provision
of fire cover
for all aircraft
movements.
Provision
of rescue and
firefighting
operations in
the event of
an unfortunate
aircraft crash.
Conducting
regular fire
prevention
inspections
at all Airport
passenger terminal
buildings and
any other ancillary
buildings.
Provision
of fire suppression
duties in the
event of a
domestic fire
at the Airport
buildings and
any other facility
at the Airport.
Ensuring
proper fire prevention
safe-guards are
incorporated
in the plans
for new buildings
and new extensions
to existing buildings
at the Airport.
Responding
to major fires
in order to
assist the
local authorities
in fire suppression
activities.
